TODAY at 11am , The Dragonfly Initiative client Scotgold Resources Ltd , announced the winning bids for the silent auction of ten limited edition 1oz Scottish Gold Rounds.
The Gold Rounds are made of the first pure Scottish gold mined from the Cononish Gold and Silver Mine in the community of Tyndrum, in the Scottish Highlands.
The gold was refined to 999.9 purity and sold in the form of ‘Rounds’ minted by Baird & Co Bullion Merchants to feature the official registered Scottish Gold Mark of the stag’s head. Each Round is also stamped with a unique serial number corresponding to a Chain of Custody system authenticated by Edinburgh Assay Office.
Gold Round Number 1, with serial number 01, reached a sale price of £21,003.03, with subsequent rounds in the series achieving between £3754.00 and £2300.00.
The gold fix price today stands at £953 per oz, showing an overall average premium of 380% across all the coin sales and an average of 188% premium for Numbers 2-10. This added value has been captured via brand-building activities together with a provenance-assurance process.

Contracted in early 2016, The Dragonfly Initiative has been working with Scotgold Resources to develop the route-to-market strategy for the first pour of Scottish gold and to support Scotgold’s marketing and product launch. We have been working closely with Scotgold, Baird & Co Mint and the Edinburgh Assay Office to develop key features of both the physical product and the brand collateral.
These features include:
- The stag’s head motif: an instantly recognizable mark which will appear on all future Scotgold gold products, including jewellery made from Scottish gold
- The chain-of-custody system for the gold, overseen and certified by the Edinburgh Assay Office
- Development of relationships with prospective buyers from the Scottish jewellery retail market who could manufacture jewellery with the gold
- A branded, premium product for the luxury market in the form of the gold rounds
- A brand message video which was released at the AGM and which will shortly be available to view on their website
- Generation of interest and speculation in the Scotgold brand among the collector and investment market
- Introduction of potential new investors to Scotgold Resources

The Dragonfly Initiative carried out extensive PR and publicity, copyrighting for website, mailshots and press releases.
The Cononish mine is first and foremost a Scottish affair – a Scottish adventure. The commitment to establish the first commercial Scottish gold mine began three decades ago and is now in reach thanks to the vision and support of local people, the Scottish government and our investors.
Scotgold Resources Ltd is acutely aware of the responsibility that comes with operating in one of the wildest and most dramatically beautiful places in Scotland. Although the mine is remote, we are in the heart of a mountainous landscape valued highly by people the world-over and recognised as sufficiently important to be included in the Loch Lomond and Trossachs National Park.
The Cononish mine uses clean, modern methods to recover gold: there will be no mercury or cyanide at the project. Instead, a ‘gravity and flotation’ method separates the gold from the host quartz. It is vital that the clear streams and rivers of the Highlands remain uncontaminated.
The preservation of the natural surroundings, vegetation and wildlife are core values of Scotgold’s operation in this truly golden glen.
The mined gold is tested for purity by Edinburgh Assay Office, which records each batch poured. The Assay Office assures a Chain of Custody that guarantees any gold product stamped with the Scottish Gold Mark of the stag’s head contains authentic Scottish gold mined from Cononish by Scotgold Resources Ltd.
